Stuart Semple presents John Trites to the gathered crowd.  John won the 2011
Semple Award, presented to an educator in Atlantic Canada who makes a
significant  “contribution to enhancing geography education in Atlantic Canada”.

Sheridan Thompson-Graham won the award for the best oral paper by a graduate student.
Here she  comes up to the front of the room to receive her warm applause and
congratulations from ACAG president Colin Laroque.  Her presentation was titled
“Coastal Erosion Management along Mistaken Point Ecological Reserve (MPER),
Newfoundland: Issues influencing potential UNESCO World Heritage Status”.

Cecilia Jennings (Mount Allison University) won the Founders Prize for best overall
oral presentation by an undergraduate student.  Cecilia’s presentation was entitled
“Fact or Fiction: Changing the tune of an old violin”.

Raymond Jahncke (Dalhousie) won the prize for the best overall poster.  Raymonds poster was
titled “Wetland identification using polarimetric radar and lidar: a pilot study in Nova Scotia”.

Oliver Woods (Saint Mary’s) won the runner-up cash prize for his poster work entitled
“An Integrative Approach to Prioritizing and Restoring Aquatic Habitat Connectivity in a
National Park Setting: the Case of Kejimkujik".

Jason Maillet (Mount Allison University) won the runner prize for his French language presentation
entitled “Determining the annual-shoot elongation parameter of Cassiope mertensiana
as a paleo-climate proxy indicator in the Canadian Rocky Mountains, Jasper AB”.

Brittany White (Dalhousie) won the runner-up prize for the best graduate student oral
presentation for her talk entitled “Social Media: How it Can Help Global Ecological Politics”.

Virginia Maclaren (University of Toronto) delivered the keynote talk entitled
“Post-NIMBYism: Landfill Opposition Twenty Years After”.

Andre Robichaud delivers his presentation in French.  This year the ACAG
targeted our Francophone colleagues and their students. We were able to offer
two sessions of French language presentations that we hope will help to break
down the language barriers that exist in the CAG.

Guy Vincent (UdeM) and Tim Reffienstein (MTA), discuss the two most contested topics
of the conference, (1) who has a better hockey team this year, the Habs or the Leafs,
and (2) the perennial issue, who should buy the next beer.

Conversation at the Olive Branch restaurant in Sackville. About 40 people
were present at the banquet to enjoy some good food and drink.

The longest distance traveled award went to Wayne Forsythe (Ryerson) and Stephen Swales
(Ryerson).  Both performed admirably at the Friday night kegger, and were still in good spirits
on Saturday night.  Here they enjoyed their banquet meals with (L to R):
Kristen Peebles (MTA),  Wayne, Stephen, Dave Leiske (MTA), and Leslie Kern (MTA).

Emma Davis, Keleigh Annau  and Brie Nelson celebrate the conclusion of the
conference at the banquet. There were 82 registrants and 34 of the 36 oral
presentations were completed by students.
