Geography
Welcome to Geography
Geography is the study of the Earth's surface, and of the spatial distribution and patterns of its physical and human characteristics. Geographers study how nature and culture work to create distinct spaces, places, landscapes, and regions. The subject is of practical importance in such fields as urban and regional planning, industrial location, marketing, resource development, environmental monitoring and management, and geomatics.
Saint Mary's University offers B.A., B.Sc., B.A. Honours, and B.Sc. Honours degrees in Geography, and B.Sc. and B.Sc. Honours degrees in Combined Geology & Geography. The department also contributes strongly to the B.Sc. program in Environmental Studies.
New Geography Courses in 2009-2010: What Does It Mean for You?
The Department of Geography introduced four new courses in 2009-2010 (GEOG 1100, 1200, 2100, and 2200) to replace GEOG 1203, 1204, 2213, and 2214. Documents below, such as the Student Handbook and Course Selection Advising Forms, have been updated to include the new courses. There will be a transition period so this document is important for explaining how a student who has completed one or more of GEOG 1203, 1204, 2213, and 2214 will be able to use those courses in their program and as prerequisites.
