George Elliott Clarke packs the house at Saint Mary's reading

12 March, 2016

A packed house turned out to the McNally Theatre Auditorium on Friday, March 11, for a homecoming visit by Canada’s newly installed Poet Laureate, Dr. George Elliott Clarke.

One of the most compelling and acclaimed voices to have emerged from the African-Nova Scotian artistic community, Dr. Clarke delivered a rousing performance of some of his earliest material, revisiting his creative origins as a young Halifax poet. ECMA-winning jazz and gospel singer Dr. Linda Carvery started the evening, accompanied by the Loppie family choir.

The Faculty of Arts and Saint Mary’s wishes to thank all those who attended and made the evening possible, and of course, Dr. Clarke himself.
