Message from the President re: France

16 November, 2015

To members of the Saint Mary’s Community:

All members of Saint Mary’s University community share the shock, the sadness and loss that is felt world-wide following the terrible tragedy that occurred in Paris on November 13, 2015.

We extend our deepest condolences to the families and friends of those who have lost their lives and our thoughts are with all those whose loved ones were killed or injured.

We have or are contacting students from France who are studying with us as well as our Canadian students and faculty who may be studying or travelling in France to offer assistance.

We also ask any faculty or staff in France who have not already done so to contact their Department Chairs or the University's International Activities Office at (902) 420-5177 to inform them of their status.

Members of the University community experiencing grief or distress are invited and encouraged to access our Health and Wellness services (The Counselling Centre for students) or the Employee and Family Assistance Program (for faculty and staff).

Please be aware that the Federal Government is also providing information through its Canadian Embassy in France (+33144432902; sos@international.gc.ca).

In solidarity and sympathy with the people of France and all those mourning this tragedy, the University will be flying its flag at half-mast for the three days (November 16, 17, 18) of national mourning declared by French President François Hollande.
